By the old docks in Marseille, in a recently converted building, is a unique space combining a épicerie (market), restaurant, wine bar and bike delivery service, all of which are organic through and through.
Run by a local Marseillais, Cyril de Héricourt and his partner, Be Organic offers a diverse selection of consciously created and locally produced food on both its shelves and tables.
Be Organic’s chef Louise (who trained with Alain Passard, the owner of the three-star restaurant L’Arpège in Paris & Yotam Ottolenghi, London-based restaurateur and food writer), uses seasonal products from the store’s stock to ensure none of its organic produce goes to waste, creating a new menu based on the food available from the épicerie each day.
Their tarts are made by an ex-lawyer, who quit her career to create flavourful gluten-free and lactose-free baked goods instead, offering an inspiring end to your meal. Each dish offered is delicious, perfectly presented and well thought out. Both decadent and simple all at once, creating a laid back and enjoyable experience.
As of September, Be Organic will be the first certified organic resturant in Marseille, both paving the way and setting an example for Marseille’s budding eco consious community. It is a bright and luminous space which draws bright and luminous people, giving you a glimpse at the cradle-to-cradle care that each facet of our food consumption desires and deserves.
