H&M Poncho a.k.a Tallit |
While flipping through the H&M Spring/Summer Magazine that mysteriously appeared on my bedroom floor, I noticed a rather odd fashion item in one of their editorials (above)…a Tallit.
For those of you that don’t know, a Tallit is a Jewish prayer shawl, normally worn during the holidays and for morning prayer. It is mainly worn indoors, not as a accessory to ones pub outfit, and, traditionally, you would find one in your nearest Synagogue gift shop, not next to the high-waisted-pencil-legged trousers on the high street.
This strange and slightly sacreligious transition of religious accessory to fashion item hasn’t been seen since the red Kabbalah bracelet hit Hollywood, leaving me to wonder, what’s next? Asos brand kippahs and House of Harlow mezuzah accessories?
Anything’s possible, I suppose…. Remember Jean-Paul Gaultier’s Fall/Winter 1993 ‘Rabbi Chic’ Runway Shows?
