#GoneGreen2018 Day 129 / 365
Spring has sprung, marking a time for regeneration and renewal. It is also an indication on the farmer’s almanack of leg hair silviculturists that the follicle rewilding project which has blessed us with an extra layer of warmth during the winter months has come to an end.
In the US, two billion disposable razors go to landfill each year, and because they’re made of plastic, they don’t biodegrade, reaping havoc on our air, soil and seas.
About three years ago, I told plastic it ain’t fantastic and dumped my disposable razor habit in exchange for a sharper and more sustainable scraper. One which could shine my shins and thighs to societal standards without laying the world to waste. They’re better looking, greener, and refillable.
Some curbside recycling offers stainless steel recycling, make sure it is tightly sealed so the blades cannot fall out and injure workers. If your recycling programme doesn’t offer this, you can look online to find out where you can drop them off. I put them in a jar until the jar is full, then drop the whole jar off at the steel recycling.
If you haven’t yet made the switch to greener shaving, and are, like me, in a season of sustainable deforestation on your own leg of land, start shaving with a straight razor and beat plastic pollution all at once.
